Competency as theme for the upcoming NORDLET conference

In collocation with ISO/IEC JTC1/SC36 NORDLET and ICOPER is hosting a one-day conference on 18th of September 2009 in Umeå, Sweden.

The theme for the conference is Competency and how this is related to the educational systems.

To cast light on the challenges of competencies the conference will arrange four tracks (two in parallel) with the following themes:

Nordlet presented for Nordplus Network for Teacher Education

Nordlet project was presented to Nordplus Network for Teacher Education project partners at Vytautas Magnus University.
12 teachers from Nordil-Baltic countries met to deliver lessons, to share didactical solutions, to discuss the potential of the shift of education at Vytautas Magnus University Department of Education on November 9-13, 2009.

One of the objectives of the meeting was to analyze of existing practices of teacher education in partner institutions in order to prepare more intensive cooperation and mobility.

Nordlet project, along with OpenScout project, TeaCamp project innitiative and the idea of OER, as well as challenges awaiting for educators were introduced in the session
"Teacher virtual mobility, video conferences, possible tools, and other challenges".

The Future of E-Skills and NORDLET

The European Commission currently discusses the topic of e-skills and the use of e-learning contents to improve skill gaps for the European workforce. The recent study "European Exchange Mechanism for e-Learning Content for e-Skills and Networking of Training and Research Centres" (see http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/sectors/ict/files/eskills__elearning_en.pdf ) includes NORDLET as a point of reference for activities in the field. The outcome of the study shows the needs of integrating European initiatives and creating portal solutions - the consequences are not clear, but NORDLET will definetely contribute towards such a European initiative.

NORDLET at the Digital Innovation Event

NORDLET is present at the Digital Innovation Workshop in the Nokia Innovation Center in Tampere as another local event.
There is a variety of topics at the workshop, mainly focusing on social media, mobile environments and very new applications. We are happy to present NORDLET and Open Education concepts there as we see this as a main driver for innovation. Slides are avalable at http://tinyurl.com/oer-digiinno

ITK Päivät 2009 - Finnish Regional Event

Nordlet was also presented in ITK Päivät Conference in 23.-24.4.2009, in Hämeenlinna, Finland.

Scifest 2009 - Finnish Regional Event

Nordlet raised first event awareness in Joensuu, Finland. The Target event was Scifest, which was attened by 5000 students and around 200 teachers of Eastern Finland.

Nordlet contributing to the next generation of educational metadata

Nordlet is co-organiser of a number of workshops on the next generation of metadata describing learning resources, i.e., the ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 MLR - Metadata for Learning Resources - Part 5 Educational elements.
